Kenya have advanced to the fourth round of the 2020 Olympics Qualifiers after downing Ghana by a solitary goal at Kasarani on Wednesday evening.
The Harambee Starlets needed a win of any kind to eliminate the Black Queens following a goalless draw in the first leg.
It was going to be a tall order for the David Ouma-led charges who had never won against their West African counterparts.
Ghana had defeated Kenya in the 2016 Awcon before drawing 1-1 two years later in the international friendly. Last week, Starlets held the Black Queens to a 0-0 draw in the first leg.
On Wednesday, neither of the two nations could score a goal in the regular time. However, the hosts got a breakthrough when their visitors conceded a penalty, and Gentrix Shikangwa kept her nerves to score what turned out to be the winner.
Kenya will now face the winner between Zambia and Botswana who are set to play on Wednesday night.
Zambia have a 1-0 advantage and need a draw to advance.
